ONE FOR THE WELLINGTONIANS

Lalgudi Sri GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Smt Vijayalakshmi created pleasing memories in Wellington with graceful & delightful notes from their violins, accompanied by dynamic performance on the Mridangam by Maestro Sri. Mannargudi Easwaran.

The concert began with a varnam in Bowli and ended with a tillana in Madhuvanti composed by their guru & father Lalgudi Jayaraman. The maestros treated the audience with a wide variety of ragas. They rendered Thyagaraja's Rama Bhakti Samarajyam in Suddha Bangala, Muthuswamy Dikshitar's Ananda Natana prakasham in raagam Ketharam, Thyagaraja's Entamuddo enta sogaso in ragam Bindumaalini , Gopalakrishna Bharati’s "Thillai Sabapathikku veru Deivam samanamaguma" in ragam Abogi, Thyagaraja's Mokshamu galada in ragam Saramati, Oothukaadu Venkata Subbaiyar's popular Alaipayuthe in ragam Kaanada, Purandaradasar's Jagadodarana in raagam kaapi and Bharathiyar's Chinnachiru kiliye.

The main song of the concert was "Chakkani Raja" in ragam Karaharapriya. Sri. Krishnan took the listeners by storm with his korvais. Sri Mannargudi Easwaran played a very enjoyable thani avartanam for this song. Smt Vijayalakshmi produced mellifluous notes in her raga alapanai in Mysore Vaasudevaacharya's "Mamavathu sri" in raagam Hindolam. Together they gave short RTPs (Raagam Taanam Pallavi) in ragas Saraswati, Reetigowlai, Neelambari, Shivaranjani, Maand, Bhageeshwari, Behaag to name a few.

Violin Duet by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi with Maestro Sri Mannargudi Easwaran, master musicians in their own right, gave one big musical treat for the Wellingtonians.
