OST concert - A Purist's Delight

On Sunday, a few Wellingtonians were delighted and lucky to enjoy the soulful singling of Sri. O.S.T, served in a traditional style for around 150 minutes.

Beginning the concert with Thyagaraja Krithi in Hamswadhwani - Shri Raghukula, Seethamma Mayamma in Vasantha and Marukelara in Jayanthasri the concert flowed to a lilting Latangi piece - Venkataramana Un Thiruvilayadalai Yaar Arivaar by Papanasam Sivan. This was followed by the popular Shri Valli Devasenapathe in Natabhairavi.

The main piece was a very satisfying Thiruvadi Sharanam (Gopala Krishna Bharathi) in Kambhoji. The neravals and swaraprastharams were crisp and well defined.

Then came popular requests sung in Jagado (Kapi),  Muruga Muruga Enral - Saveri - Periyasaami Tooran, Sada Enna Hridayadalli (Vijaya Vittala Dasa) in Behag, and Kaana Vendamo (Papanasam Sivam) - Sriranjani. The concert concluded with a Tillana in Hindolam.

Sri OST was ably supported by Dr. Ashok Malur on the Violin, who came up good to the challenge of playing to the Maestro. Sri. Sridhar Chari provided brilliant percussion support and his Tani was excellent.
